First practice on Saturday was far from ideal, with a wet track and a very low temperature saw some riders struggling with the conditions and there were several fallers. Cameron Horsman took it steady, getting a feel for the conditions and finishing the practice without any problems.
The second session was still very cold and although the track had improved there was only one wet corner. Rory Skinner was in the mix again but this time Cameron Horsman had clearly gained confidence as he and Skinner swapped the fastest times throughout the session. The two riders were generally more than a second ahead of the third placed rider for the full 30 minutes. As the session came to a close Horsman again went fastest leading Skinner by 0.895 seconds with a 1:47.471 to be the fastest rider after the two practice sessions.
In qualifying Cameron Horsman was unable to match his second practice taking 5th place on the grid for the first race later in the day.
The inaugural race of British Talent Cup and drama started before the race even began when Cameron Horsman and Rory Skinner both fell on the sighting lap. Both were successful in getting their bikes back to pit lane, where mechanics worked quickly on repairs and both riders were able to re-join at the back of the grid instead of in their qualifying positions of fifth and sixth. Fenton Seabright had an issue on the grid as riders left for the warm-up lap eventually starting from the pit lane. Despite starting from the back by the end of the first lap Cameron Horsman was running 13th, Fenton Seabright 15th and Rory Skinner was up to 9th. In the final third of the race, there was a continuous battle between Storm Stacey, Rory Skinner, Scott Swann, Charlie Atkins and Cameron Horsman for fifth to ninth places. At the finish it was Thomas Strudwick in 1st place followed by Joshua Whatley and Fenton Seabright with Cameron Horsman taking 6th place.
At the end of the race Cameron said he was pleased with his result after having crashed on the sighting lap and starting from the back but was looking forward to Monday’s race. Thank you to everyone for supporting me and particularly to Dorna for giving me the opportunity to be part of the BTC team. #23
