HEL British Motostar Moto3 Standard – Rd 9 – Silverstone

post-2017-rd9-silverstone

This round of the season saw HEL Performance British Moto 3 class competing
on their own and not combined with the open class machines. There was
however some 30 competitors due to the addition of German riders competing
in the Northern European Cup. Points were awarded separately to both classes.
With the forecast for rain being correct, both free practices on Friday for the
Standard Class were in wet conditions. In first practice Cameron was 15 th
overall and 5 th out of the British riders; second practice saw him taking 7 th place
of the British riders.

After more inclement weather overnight the track on Saturday dried up before
qualifying; pushing hard from the start Cameron has some good sector times,
was leading at one stage and posting fastest lap. At the flag he was in 4 th place
out of the British riders and 10 th overall giving him a good grid position for the
first race later in the afternoon. There was further rain throughout the day but
the track once again was dry for the late afternoon race.

Race 1 was shortened to 8 laps and from the start Cameron was determined and
riding hard but was just not able to make up more ground on the first 7 riders,
and at the flag taking 4 th place in the British class and 8 th overall.
Sunday morning warm up was first of the day with Race 2 following mid-
morning. Despite grey skies and slight drizzle, things stayed dry. Cameron was
not too pleased at having to start 20th on the grid – this being the result of the
gap between him and the riders in front of him in Race 1. Once the lights went
out Cameron was determined to make up places in the field over the 10 lap race
managing to finish in 13 th place overall and 5 th place with the British riders.
Following the race Cameron said overall the weekend had been good, was
pleased with the results and his bike had performed well. Again thank you to
my Dad for all the preparation and work he does of the bike to get it race ready
and for taking me to races; also thank you to my family and everyone who
supports and encourages me.
